Steps

  1. Introduce yourself in the hallway, at the mailbox or with a note under the door.
  2. Offer something small first, such as taking in a package.
  3. Swap phone numbers with one or two neighbors you feel comfortable with.
  4. Agree what you will watch for: packages, piled up mail, a light left on for days.
  5. Tell them when you will be away, if you are comfortable doing so.
  6. Join a building or street group chat if one exists.
  7. Return favors and check in now and then.
