Steps

  1. Plan the route in daylight and prefer lit, busy streets over shortcuts.
  2. Note two or three places that stay open late where you could step inside.
  3. Charge your phone before you leave and share your trip with a friend.
  4. Keep at most one earbud in, at low volume, or none.
  5. Have your keys ready before you reach your door.
  6. If someone follows you, cross the street, change direction, or walk into an open business.
  7. Text your friend when you are inside with the door locked.
