Steps

  1. Chill the food in the fridge and the cooler with ice overnight before packing.
  2. Line the bottom and sides with frozen gel packs, frozen water bottles or bagged ice.
  3. Seal raw meat in containers or bags and pack it at the very bottom.
  4. Put ready to eat food, salads and fruit on top, away from raw meat juices.
  5. Pack drinks in a separate cooler, since it will be opened constantly.
  6. Keep the cooler in the shade with the lid shut, and add ice as it melts.
  7. Throw out perishable food that sat out more than two hours, or one hour above 90 degrees.
