  1. Find the declarations page, the summary at the front of the policy.
  2. Write down the dwelling limit and ask whether it would rebuild the house at today's costs.
  3. Note the limits for other structures, personal property and loss of use.
  4. Check whether personal property is paid at replacement cost or actual cash value.
  5. Read the deductible, and whether wind or hail has a separate one.
  6. Look for exclusions, especially flood, earthquake and sewer backup.
  7. Ask your agent about anything you do not understand, and keep a digital copy.
