Steps

  1. Plan two meals that use the same fresh ingredients, such as a bunch of greens or a pack of chicken thighs.
  2. Buy loose produce by the piece rather than in large bags.
  3. Cook a double batch and freeze single portions in flat bags or small containers.
  4. Freeze bread, chopped herbs and grated ginger so they last.
  5. Plan second lives: roast vegetables become frittata, rice becomes fried rice.
  6. Keep eggs, frozen vegetables and a grain for nights when nothing is planned.
  7. Check the fridge before shopping.
