Parents and caregiving admin
Tick each skill once you can do it without the guide.
- Gather age, address, shot records and past school papers for enrollment
- Keep the school emergency form current with two local backups
- Leave a dated medical consent note and insurance copy with a caregiver
- Leave a sitter sheet with the address, numbers, allergies and first aid kit
- Carry a signed travel consent letter when a parent is not on the trip
- Bring dated notes and three questions to a school meeting
- Gather a parent's IDs, medicines, proxy, power of attorney and will locations
- Ask aging parents where they want to live and who speaks for them
- Know whether a parent's power of attorney is durable and where it is
- Get a signed release at each of a parent's doctors and a portal proxy
- Keep a dated medication list copied from the labels
- Keep a dated caregiving binder where helpers can find it
- Tour assisted living with questions on care, staff, medicines and moving out
- Hire in-home care with checked references and written duties
- Ask HR about caregiving leave and request it in writing
- Notice caregiver burnout early and ask for specific help
